Going into the 2020 NFL Draft, one of the most highly debated prospects was quarterback Justin Herbert out of Oregon, with rabid supporters and doubters on both sides of the aisle that posed valid arguments about his strengths and weaknesses. While many considered him to be destined for the wrong situation and an outright bust, Justin Herbert's 2020 season with the Los Angeles Chargers exceeded all expectations, placing him tops among rookie quarterbacks with an extremely high likelihood to win rookie of the year. This video focuses on how much Herbert's perception has evolved since his time at Oregon, with his progression to the NFL level surpassing even his biggest supporters' hopes.

Turns out I got my Oregon quarterback highlights tangled up in the making of this vid: the clip at 2:59 is Marcus Mariota not Herbert. Justin is still an excellent athlete, just maybe not _that_ athletic.

@MR BOLT he will be the next philip rivers. drew brees got out of the chargers and won a super bowl. the chargers know nothing but failure. and look at the patriots game he got absoulutly destroyed. lol. belicheck destroys quarterbacks like him.

@Grodstose Then again he came back and won a against CHIEFS,BRONCOS AND THE RAIDERS. So what’s your point??? And they didn’t lost those games because of Herbert, they lost because of bad coaching and bad time management. Did you even watched those games?? He give a run for their money to Super bowl defenders Chiefs, the Saints and the now super bowl champions Buccaneerss. Now if you take in consideration that he had the worst OL of the NFL, most of the time he was playing with rookies, undrafted players and bunch of no names players and still made them look good. Most of his elite players were injured or played injured during the season. Then with 15 games end up braking bunch of NFL records and won the ORTY?? 7 of those games were lost only by one score. Plus he was playing with a coach that didn’t wanted him there in the 1st place, he was the quarterback that played under most pressure the whole season. Those are some of the reasons that make Herbert so awesome

@Jok3r_Tr1ckster the difference between Herbert and Fitz is that Justin is the better QB that came out of college. seems obvious that Herbert was able to handle his academic skills and football much better than Fitz which is why one was a first rounder while the other was a 7th rounder.

    5. Jok3r_Tr1ckster

@Logan Neitch Don't get me wrong I think the same way you do and I think signing Fitz is a good way to fix a QB problem/add depth to the Football Team. Just saying that he isn't perfect and that despite being a harvard grad he still has decision making issues

It’s all a roll of the dice. For any qb, I don’t think there’s any evaluations that are completely wrong, just the wrong traits/attributes are focused on during the evaluation process. I think fit and intangibles are the two most important factors of qb success, but to see those factors play a role, you’d have to already have your guy.

Look at the Chargers game vs the Buccaneers, he’ll of a game he did what Mahomes couldn’t. Also his Offensive line was ranked 32 dead last, the chiefs had the 11th ranked O line. Also had 2 WRs from the practice squad.

i have watched Justin Herbert for his four years of collage and i have watched his high school tape and i saw some flaws but what held him back was the play calling my ducks were doing cause not only did he go through 3 oc's he went through 3 head coaches but i was not blinded by any flaws or any glamour and i new that he would be a star, i could not see how people bashed on him it showed they had no knowledge of football, they would cherry pick throws to fit their narrative and avoid the fact in those games he also crushed the opposing team and threw 50 to 60 yard bombs on dimes, or that the one loss they had in conference his last year was because the defense had a really bad game which was unusual during that season, and even though he struggled a bit at the end he threw 3TD's in the 4th quarter and almost brought them back, his talent on the field was there for everyone to see they just didn't want to. The only reason we see so many qb's be labeled as busts is that the media want a narrative to drive controversy they don't actually give a dam if there accurate at all. Even though Oregon is my school, and i bleed yellow and green when you see talent on the field regardless of there school or division treat the athletes with the respect of showing the whole truth look at small school successes like Kahlil Mack out of Buffalo.

Herbert showed all the signs of being a great quarterback since day one he was a 4 year starter and day 1 I saw it he made NFL caliber throws consistently his inconsistency I would say came from the style of offense he ran at Oregon they were run first never really opened the playbook up for him and his talent level of WRs was weak his best passing threat was his TE and he got hurt his senior year all the dumbasses that doubted him are eating there words and I love it I knew he was the best QB in the draft and IMO I always thought he was better than Lawrence

I lived in Eugene for his junior and senior year. Have a video of him throwing a td against bowling green right up the seam for a 40 yard TD. I’ve been blessed to see Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Derek Carr Cam Newton, Phillip Rivers, all in person. Justin throws the ball better than all of them except Rodgers. Herbert’s arm talent is all time great. One of my closest friends was iffy on him coming on his Chargers taking him but I assured him he would be great if he had some time to grasp the speed of the NFL game, I never thought he would be what he was right out the gate. Hopefully he continues his success and has a long healthy career.

It's almost worse to be 1st overall picked unless you're like an O=lineman or something of that sort because as a qb you basically hit the worst possible team. AKA joe Burrow which is a fucking Stud but the bengals are straight ass.

People forget that the UO offense honestly had and still have horrible injury luck for receivers and tight ends the entirety of Herbs career at UO. If he had more receiver talent while he was in college he would have easily gone a year sooner.
