To all the thick tyson fan boys who are claiming he ducked Tyson and Bowe, Guess what Lewis beat Bowe in the olympics. And when they were set to fight in the PRO'S Bowe chucked his belt in the trash as a protest of not fighting Lewis in a mandatory. Bowe was shit scared of Lewis. Tyson paid him 4 million dollars to step aside to be able to fight Holyfield with the winner fighting Lewis next when he was set to go against Lewis. History tells us what happened to that arrangement.

@peasant East Side Boxing Forum > Boxing > General Boxing Forum Why Do Lennox Lewis fans Deny, Lie and Distort Information? OCT 28, 1991 Sports Illustrated Vault THE CHAMP WHO FIGHTS CHUMPS PAT PUTNAM Lewis's victim that night, his 16th in a row as a pro, was Mike Weaver, the former WBA heavyweight champ, a grandfather and still fighting at 39, because, says his manager, Don Manuel, "he needs the money. I could get him a real job, but he doesn't want to work." He is fighting guys like Weaver and like Glenn McCrory, the former cruiserweight champ whom he outweighed by 10 pounds and knocked out on Sept. 30 in London. Worse, Weaver and McCrory were, in all probability, Lewis's toughest opponents Lewis may be Great Britain's latest hope for a heavyweight champion, but as a professional he has been dining on tomato cans named Noel Quarless, Jorge Dascola and Jean Chanet The Lewis camp, as you might expect, claims its fighter's strange campaign has been marked by prudence. "Patience," advises John Davenport, the ex-Marine from Plainfield, N.J., who trains the 26-year-old European and British champion. "We are not going to rush Lennox's career," says John Hornewer, the heavyweight's American lawyer. "Slowly does it," says Frank Maloney, his London-born manager. Tyrell Biggs may be next. Also, Frank Bruno has just been cleared by the British Boxing Board for a comeback. "To be taken seriously, he has to go in against me," says Lewis. "If he doesn't, he has no hope of going anywhere in boxing again." That certainly seems true. Those nervous money men across the pond have even been heard to mutter, "Holyfield" and "Tyson." Dear, dear, dear. If that lot has its way, forget the Queen; God save Lennox Lewis.

@Lummox The reason Mike Tyson and George Foreman never fought according to witnesses who heard it is because Mike absolutely refused the fight. Styles make fights, and Mike was convinced - and probably rightly - that George had his number. (A belief 42 year old George firmly shared) Let us start with Frank Lotierzo, the writer and former boxer who reported that Mike had declined a Foreman fight in 1990. Frank Lotierzo is one of boxing's most respected journalists. Frank Lotierzo is a staff writer for NY Fights. Over the years, his work has appeared in The Sweet Science, Boxing Illustrated, Fight Game, and Boxing Scene. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was an amateur boxer based out of Philadelphia and trained by George Benton. He is a member of the International Boxing research Organization. He has also worked on ESPN radio. He has never been accused, in any way, by anyone, of fabricating or manufacturing a story. His reputation is spotless, and irreproachable. But there is a lot more to the fact Tyson declined a Foreman fight that just Lotierzo's story. George Foreman has said flatly, on the record that Tyson refused to fight him. George Foreman said on the record with an interview for "On the Ropes" that "There were a couple of times, serious negotiations were going on with the Mike Tyson fight. Mike Tyson just didn’t want to fight me." George himself continues to say he tried to get the Tyson fight and failed on numerous occasions, something Mike has never denied. www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/george-foreman-mike-tyson/59645 Frank Lotierzo, on the record for Cox's Corner, said it best 29 years ago: "I haven't a morsel of a doubt that Tyson just doesn't match up with Foreman, and he knows it. If Tyson of 1990 was afraid of an old Foreman, think how petrified he would of been of a prime Foreman, the one who stared down both Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali in 1973 and 1974." According to highly respected boxing writer and historian Frank Lotierzo, he went to out to eat with Georgie Benton, Lou Duva and Bobby Goodman on June 1, 1990. (all were in Atlantic City for the Holyfield - McDonagh fight) At the time, Goodman was Don King's matchmaker. Lotierzo had known Benton for many years, and through him Duva. He had been introduced to Goodman a couple weeks before Tyson fought Larry Holmes at the Convention Center in Atlantic City in January 1988. While the group was eating that day in 1990, according to Lotierzo, who has written and spoken about this extensively, Benton said, "Bobby, what's up with Foreman and Tyson, how come they're not fighting each other on the 16th? Isn't that the fight that King was trying to make?" Goodman then said, "Georgie, You'll never believe this but, Fuckin' Tyson is scared shit less of Foreman and wants no part of him. I was there when Don was trying to make the fight. He was telling Tyson that Foreman represented huge money, plus he was old and slow and would be no problem. Tyson got up and screamed at King saying, 'I'm not fight in' that Fuckin' animal, if you love the motherfucker so much, you fight him!'" Lotierzo also wrote and has said that all through the lunch Goodman, Duva, Benton, and himself shared stories on the fight game. In addition to what he had already said about Tyson and Foreman, Goodman added later, "oh I remember why else Tyson wanted no parts of Foreman. He said that King had found out from Steve Lott that Tyson and Cus D'Amato used to watch the Frazier-Foreman fight over and over." He went on to say that Tyson loved that fight because he was awed by Foreman's power and Frazier's toughness and how he kept getting up after every knockdown. Goodman also told the group that Lott told King that Cus sat alongside Tyson saying, "It's suicide against Foreman if you're short and fight a swarming attacking style like Marciano or Frazier." Cus, of course, never dreamed that Foreman could be a possible Tyson opponent so many years later. According to Goodman, Cus said the only fighters who had a chance against Foreman were, tall rangy fighters who could fight him from a distance while moving away from him, and no way any swarmer could beat Foreman by going to him. Lotierzo has written on the record that he subsequently talked to people who were involved with promoting Foreman, including Ron Weathers who promoted some of Foreman's fights after his coming out of retirement. Weathers told Lotierzo the same story. The fight didn't happen because of Tyson's conviction he would lose to Big George. Bob Arum also said that he dreamed of making Foreman -Tyson. He said it would be huge money and that Foreman would stop Tyson easier than he did Frazier. Lotierzo also wrote he has heard the same story, of Tyson not wanting to fight Foreman from George's brother Roy who was his business manager. For people who claim this is only "hearsay," a journalist's sources, undisputed by 4 people who were there, including Mike Tyson, for 28 years, and confirmed by 2 more people independently, that claim is absurd. They simply do not want to believe Tyson refused the fight. (Mike himself doesn't deny it!) The original story, well sourced, and undisputed, is reprinted on the Sweet Science, online here: tss.ib.tv/boxing/articles-of-2003/1145-why-we-never-saw-foreman-tyson Bobby Goodman is in the Hall of Fame, and has confirmed this story to at least one other boxing writer and historian. The original story has been reprinted in five other publications over the past 3 decades, with never a whisper that it was not so. Frank Lotierzo went on to work on ESPN and repeated this story on the air. Mike Tyson, a student of the fight game, watched films of Foreman, as far back as with Cus when he was still a kid, and was convinced as Cus told him, that George was just too quick and strong, and would have overwhelmed the much smaller man. I simply do not believe six reputable people made this up, or that it got printed 6 times without a challenge and presented on ESPN, if it were not true.

@Lummox Mike Tyson ducked Holyfield from late 1988 to late 1991. Evander was ready to box him during these 3 years & was always confident of knocking out “Iron” Mike during the same period. Mike Tyson also knew that Holyfield was the better boxer & dodged Evander for 3 years straight. Finally; in 1996, Mike Tyson was pitted against Lennox Lewis, but bailed out again, as he knew that Lennox would beat him. At last; Mike chose to fight Holyfield, because he thought that Evander was past his prime, that he was 4 years elder to him, & that he had suffered heart problems (a result of being administered with excessive painkillers & saline water). So yes; “Iron” Mike (in his prime) avoided both Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield, for the fear of being knocked out by them.

@Lummox "Tyson ducked Holyfield. I was one of the many reporters who asked Tyson, at the post fight news conferences after his wins over lesser fighters, “will you fight Holyfield next?” And Tyson would never commit to fight him. And when the news conference ended, Holyfield would say to us reporters, “why won’t he fight me?” Holyfield was at every one of Tyson’s title defenses asking that same question. Then a few weeks later, Tyson would announce another defense over another lesser challenger. There’s an ESPN “30-for-30” documentary called “Chasing Tyson” that shows how Tyson, every time he was interviewed, was asked about Holyfield , but still didn’t fight him. The whole boxing world wanted to see it happen, except Tyson and his people. Holyfield, upon moving up to heavyweight in 1988, had beaten two former Tyson opponents, Quick Tillis and Pinklon Thomas, to prove he was a viable opponent for Tyson. In 1989, to bolster his efforts to force Tyson to fight him, Holyfield began knocking off several highly ranked heavies: Michael Dokes who was 37-1, Adilson Rodriguez, 35-2, and unbeaten Alex Stewart, 24-0. I don’t understand why some people on Quora attempt to answer these questions without checking the record, but those are the facts. And still, Tyson signed to fight Buster Douglas, who had 4 losses on his record, rather than the undefeated Holyfield. Tyson then finally gave in to the pressure and signed to fight Holyfield, but Douglas prevented that from happening when he beat Tyson. To his credit, Douglas behaved like a true champion and gave Holyfield an overdue shot at the title in his first defense. The reason Tyson avoided Holyfield is that, based on their sparring as amateurs, Tyson knew Holyfield was unafraid of him. There was also an incident in a pool hall where the young Tyson was bullying everyone and Holyfield stood up to him. In 1996, they finally fought, and Holyfield showed everyone why Tyson had avoided him all those years earlier, dominating Tyson and knocking him out in the 11th round, and following up with the famous ear-biting disqualification the following year." -Billy Vargus

Thank you for the video.. Lewis doesn't fit in with the 'Pop Culture' narrative like Mike T. Mike T in his prime fought nobody.. Ducked Lewis his whole career. Only fought him for money. Bow was the same.. Us who are old enough to remember Larry Holmes in his prime know that Lewis was the greatest HW since Holmes and the Ali/Foreman/Frazier era. Lewis was a giant. 6. 6".. only an inch smaller than Joshua.. He would of been too big for Frazier.. Foreman had a punchers chance.. Ali maybe could of danced to a points decision maybe..Holmes in his prime for me was probably the greatest. Would of been a great fight between Holmes and Lewis.

@u2bst1nks it's strange how Tyson's 'prime' is before he fought anyone except bums, second raters and old men,and Lewis's prime is when he fought and beat every big name from the 80's, 90"s and 2,000's. Tyson turned Pro in 1985, was world champion in 87 and lost in 90 to Douglas, he was apparently "in his prime" for about 2 years, that's no time at all, he fought until 2005 so that's 15 years ( minus prison time) where he wasn't 'in his prime'.

@The Information Bomber "You can't beat cheaters it's that simple", strange that Lewis managed to beat the same cheating Holyfield and if it hadn't been for one of the worst 'draws' ever given he would have defeated Holyfield twice.

When asked about it, Lewis said that him and Tyson came in to their primes at different times. Tyson peaked earlier than him and he knew it. He wasn't ready for prime Tyson. At the time Lewis was killing everyone, Tyson was already shot. Who knows who would have won if there was a time machine and they could have fought prime to prime. I love Mike, but I'd probably bet on Lewis. Too big, too clever. I'm not downplaying how good Tyson was, but boxing doesn't have a superheavy division. But guys like the Klits, Lewis, Fury, etc... make the case for a new division.

@The Information Bomber that's not what happened, Lewis knocked Tyson out remember, and saved by the bell sometimes happens, it's part of boxing, Tyson was a decent fighter but limited tactically and he lost every time against top ranked fighters, compare Tyson's record against Lewis, no Klitschko, no Holyfield win, no Mercer, no Briggs, he won lots of fights early on against second rate fighters.

@Paul M no you are the who knows nothing holyfield is confirmed PEDs abusing cheater he doesn't count You can't beat cheaters it's that simple lewis got chin checked by 2 opponents worse than douglas Tyson would have knocked him out worse than Mccall did

In boxing size matters. A great big boxer will always beat a great smaller boxer. A decent big boxer will always give a small great heavyweight a hard time. Lennox was great, no doubt. Holyfield and Tyson were smaller great boxers but big Lennox was just too much for those two and the rest of his victims to handle.

Good fighter but not one of the greats, let's get real he fought the top guys well past there prime and he should've lost the Klichko fight. He was really at the right place at the right time, kinda like Anthony Joshua right now.
